Trusty old Toyota broke down at the wrecker today (where I got free Chevelle bits, so silver linings) theory I’m going on is that the batt cables are so old they won’t carry the current to start the car, unless it’s cold first start of the day, once its warm thermal expansion jiggers the corrosion and it can’t overcome the resistance in the 31 year old wires. that’s the theory I’m going with, gonna pick up some welding cable and replace both cables.
When wrenches and sandpaper wouldn’t do it, I rolled myself into the ditch and drove myself back out.

Possibly a solenoid issue, or did you replace that when you replaced the starter?

looking into that too, probably bad wires and crud.

My old Corolla had a bad starter solenoid. I took it apart and there’s a brass washer in it that causes the current to flow to the starter motor. I sanded it down and out it back in. That fixed it.

Sandpaper and vise grips DID fix it. left the actual cable off when I ditch-started it, feel dumb, but it drove home. still needs new cables.

i recomend the double 0ught.... been replacing the standard cables in my junk with it for a while....best cables i have owned. you might of gotten a knick in a wire, and had moisture form some corrosion in them.

Mine was in the family 29 years before anything broke. It owes me nothing, but I’m sure I can get 29 more for an even 60 before it’s all used up. It’s done it’s job, and has every right to develop some personality. I don’t like trucks with no scratches. I like honest trucks too.

ive gotten the urge to paint my truck before, but i always lost the heart before i did. something about covering up the hard earned scars that let you know its been there for someone....just didnt sit right.
precious things arent always worth much though.

ive thought about the japanese broken pottery before, and mending the truck like that, trying to keep as much of the original around for as long as possible be fun explaining to pick and pull why you are sawing off only the bottom 1/4 of a door.
i know ill be sad when the last of it is gone.

i still regularly find chunks of bed wood planks and body bolts in the road that work their way loose, bout the only reason i go walking. keeps me on my toes. the truck letting me know that it wants attention too.
